Police and firefighters called to a Bronx apartment found lots of smoke — and a mother who was viciously slashed across her face, allegedly by her teen son.

Nine police officers were choked by smoke as a man identified by family as Hamza Hydara, 18, cloistered himself in an apartment in the Butler houses after slashing his mother around 2 p.m., cops said.

The victim, identified by family as Sadi Hydara, 42, told authorities her teenage son had tried to set a couch on fire after slicing her with an unknown object, police said.

“I heard them screaming,” said family friend Lahameh Batchilly, 54. “Then I saw smoke.”

The assaulted mother, wearing a massive gauze bandage over her eyes, was brought to Saint Barnabas hospital in stable condition.

She comforted her shaken 13-year-old daughter in the hallway after the attack, Batchilly said.

“She said ‘Don’t cry, anything can happen,’ ” Batchilly said. “She was thanking God he didn’t kill her.”

Firefighters and police officers got into the smoke-filled unit and slapped the teen in cuffs. Charges were pending late Tuesday.

Nine members of the NYPD were hospitalized for smoke inhalation, cops said.
