CBS 2 – December 15, 2014

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – One person has been confirmed dead in a fire in Brooklyn.

The fire broke out on the second floor of a home on East 29th Street near Avenue R in Sheepshead Bay around 3 a.m. Monday. The blaze quickly spread to the top level, CBS2’s Ilana Gold reported.

Once the fire was extinguished, emergency responders found Shewming Seto, 66, unconscious and unresponsive on the third floor, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A fire official said the homeowner was a hoarder and everything in the home carried the flames, Gold reported.

It’s not clear if there were working smoke detectors in the home, but fire crews said they heard none on their arrival, CBS 2 reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation
