Two families of fallen New York firefighters were brought together by a bracelet that miraculously reappeared 10 years later.

East Islip resident Jonathan Otten had lost a memorial bracelet given to him by his mother, Marion, that honored his father, Michael Otten, who died on Sept. 11, he told TV station NBC4 New York.

“It was just a bracelet to me back then,” he told the station. “It didn’t have such a big meaning as it does now.”

But Marlene Quinn was recently walking on Robert Moses Beach when she found the bracelet.

“I was walking along and a wave came up. It went away and that bracelet was there,” she told the station. Quinn recognized Michael Otten’s name as a fallen firefighter. Quinn’s brother, Michael, was also a firefighter who died last spring.

Quinn contacted the family and returned the bracelet.

“To think all the poor souls we did lose on 9/11, it’s someone from my hometown,” Quinn told the station.

Marion Otten said she does not believe this was a coincidence.

“There’s a reason why it happened,” she told the station. “It brings us together for whatever reason.”
